摘要：The explosive growth of Big Data brings significant challenges and potentials to a wide range of fields, from genomics to personalized medicine to information technology. It also creates tremendous opportunities for statistics. The emergence of data science promises to revolutionize industries from business to health care to government, and to change how we work, live and communicate. In this non-technical talk, I will discuss a few interesting problems to illustrate the potential benefits of Big Data and the demand for statistics in the age of Big Data. The emergence of data science requires substantially expansion of statistics programs in leading universities.
主講人簡(jiǎn)介：蔡天文教授是沃頓商學(xué)院Dorothy Silberberg 統(tǒng)計(jì)學(xué)講席教授，復(fù)旦大學(xué)管理學(xué)院杰出特聘教授，復(fù)旦大學(xué)大數(shù)據(jù)學(xué)院學(xué)術(shù)委員共同主任。2008年榮獲世界統(tǒng)計(jì)學(xué)考普斯獎(jiǎng) (COPSS Presidents' Award), 該獎(jiǎng)為國(guó)際統(tǒng)計(jì)學(xué)領(lǐng)域的最高獎(jiǎng)。2006年當(dāng)選為國(guó)際數(shù)理統(tǒng)計(jì)學(xué)會(huì)會(huì)士（Fellow）。他曾擔(dān)任The Annals of Statistics的主編，也曾擔(dān)任Journal of the American Statistical Association，Annals of Statistics，Statistica Sinica等國(guó)際著名統(tǒng)計(jì)期刊的編委（Associate Editor），現(xiàn)任Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B的編委（Associate Editor）。其主要研究方向?yàn)椋焊呔S統(tǒng)計(jì)推斷 (High dimensional statistical inference)、大范圍假設(shè)檢驗(yàn) (Large-scale multiple comparisons)、非參數(shù)函數(shù)估計(jì) (Nonparametric function estimation)等。
